Move for MSA 2026: A Month of Action for Multiple System Atrophy Awareness

Move for MSA

First launched in 2016 with the iconic MSA Shoe — featured in Motown, on a Detroit billboard, and alongside Queen of the Blues, Thornetta Davis — Move for MSA quickly grew beyond a single campaign.

The movement reached Canada as well, in partnership with Defeat MSA/Vaincre AMS Canada, where an aerobics event at Niagara Falls symbolized the power of international collaboration and shared commitment.

Today, Move for MSA is a month-long awareness and action challenge designed to turn simple, everyday actions into meaningful support for the MSA community.

Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a rare, progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting movement, speech, balance, and autonomic function. There is currently no cure.

But there is community.
There is research momentum.
And there is action we can take — together.

Start a Facebook Fundraiser

How to Start a Facebook Fundraiser for Move for MSA. Starting a fundraiser takes just a few minutes — and it makes a real difference.

Step 1: Go to Facebook Fundraisers

On Facebook, click Fundraisers in the menu, or search “Facebook Fundraisers.”

Step 2: Choose “Raise Money for a Nonprofit”

Select Defeat MSA Alliance (USA) from the nonprofit list.

Step 3: Set Your Goal

Choose a fundraising goal that feels meaningful and achievable — every dollar helps advance research.

Step 4: Write a Short Personal Message

Example:

I’m participating in Move for MSA this March to raise awareness and support research for Multiple System Atrophy. Join me in taking action and helping move research forward.

Step 5: Share It

Post your fundraiser.
Invite at least 5 friends to support or share.
Add weekly updates with your challenge photos.

Each week in March, we focus on one meaningful theme inspired by how MSA affects the body — and how we can respond with strength, connection, and awareness.

Week 1: WALK

“Step for Strength”

Walking is something many MSA warriors gradually lose.

So we walk with purpose in their honor.

Your Challenge:

    • Take 3 (or more) intentional walks this week — any pace, any distance.
    • Post a photo.
    • Tag Defeat MSA Alliance.
    • Share your Facebook fundraiser and invite others to contribute.
    • Or make a direct contribution to support research.

Every step represents forward momentum.

Week 2: WRITE

“Notes of Love”

Fine motor skills often become difficult for those living with MSA.

Your Challenge:

    • Write 4 heartfelt notes — to loved ones, friends, or coworkers.
    • Share appreciation.
    • Reconnect intentionally.
    • Share your fundraiser link in your posts.
    • Or contribute directly to Defeat MSA.

Connection builds community — and community fuels research.

Week 3: TALK

“Voices That Matter”

MSA can affect vocal cords and speech, making communication harder over time.

Your Challenge:

    • Call 3 people you haven’t connected with recently.
    • Use your voice while you can.
    • Share why MSA Awareness Month matters.
    • Share your Facebook fundraiser.
    • Encourage contributions to advance research.

Conversations expand awareness. Awareness drives action.

Week 4: HELP

“Strength is Shared”

Caregiving becomes central for many families impacted by MSA.

Your Challenge:

    • Perform one act of kindness each day this week.
    • Offer practical help.
    • Check in on someone.
    • Share your actions online.
    • Post your fundraiser link or contribute directly.

Small acts build powerful networks.

Why Move for MSA Matters

MSA is rare.
Research is complex.
Progress requires visibility and funding.

Move for MSA transforms awareness into:

    • Education
    • Engagement
    • Fundraising
    • Research acceleration

Every post, call, walk, and note builds momentum.

Rare Disease Day Reminder

February 28 — Show Your Stripes.

Before March begins, recognize Rare Disease Day by sharing an MSA fact graphic and inviting your network to participate in Move for MSA.

Awareness starts conversations.
Conversations lead to support.
Support fuels research.

The Bigger Picture

Defeat MSA Alliance (USA) and the MSA United Research Consortium are volunteer-operated organizations.

Funds raised support:

    • Global research initiatives
    • Clinical trial advancement
    • Biomarker development
    • Advocacy at major neurology conferences
    • Patient and caregiver resources
    • The MSA Hub community
